Robert Payne's real name was John Embry, who was the publisher of Drummer Magazine from 1975 to 1986. Mr. Embry under the name Robert Payne, published a two part magazine called "The Care and Training of the Male Slave". In 1975, Mr. Embry held a mock slave auction in Los Angeles in which a massive police raid involving over 105 police officers, helicopters, and dozens of police cars. Mr. Embry, other men, and one women, were charged with an 1874 statute against trafficking in human slaves, a felony.
